Thank you for choosing Oldcastle Surfaces for your project. We have compiled some information that will assist you in completing your project. Please review the following information.

PREPARATION

Cabinets: Base cabinets must be installed and anchored to the wall and/or floor before your template takes place. With all countertop installations there is a chance that some sort of cabinet modifications must be completed before the top can be installed. Cabinets must be within an 1/8" level from cabinet to cabinet and from back to front. There is unfortunately no way to tell if cabinets are out of level until the old tops have been removed. Sometimes this doesn’t occur until the day of install. It is the responsibility of the customer to make any modifications necessary. Cabinets that will rest on top of the countertop  (i.e. appliance garages) should be installed after the installation of  the countertop has been completed.

Support: The countertop material and thickness determine the  amount of overhang allowed on a countertop with out additional support. Additional support is required for any overhang larger than the following:
  • 6" (Acrylic Countertop)
  • 6" (2cm Stone Countertop)
  • 8" (3cm Stone Countertop)
Supports should be place approx. every 2 feet. There should never be an unsupported overhang in an area where it might receive excessive stress; such as someone sitting or standing on the surface. To be safe it is always best to assume that this might happen and provide additional support in these areas.  Brackets, corbels & legs must be installed before installation.

Removal of existing countertops and appliances: Oldcastle Surfaces uses a laser to template your countertops so it is not necessary to remove your countertops prior to your template. If you choose for us to remove your countertops it will be done the day of install.

Sinks, faucets and appliances: ALL appliances and fixtures MUST be on the job site the day of template. This includes sinks, faucets, soap pumps, hot/cold water  dispensers, cook tops and slide-in stoves. If you have a custom appliance such as a stove or refrigerator that may affect your countertop they need to be on site as well.

Customer Authorization: The customer or decision-maker over the age of 18 MUST be present at the time of measuring/templating, and be responsible for approving all the details of the countertop.

Incidental Damage: Final wall preparation such as painting and / or wall papering should be completed AFTER installation. Care will be exercised during the tearout and countertop  installation; however, scrapes, punctures or digs to wall surfaces are  possible, as are scratches and scrapes to cabinetry. These items are considered incidental damage and are the customer's responsibility to repair.

Final Pricing: Your initial quote is an estimate of the projected price of your countertop project. The final price will be determined after the template has been completed.

INSTALLATION

Installation: The customer or designated decision-maker over the age of 18 MUST be present during the entire installation process.

Seams: Please note that the placement of all seams required is at the discretion of the fabricator. ALL stone countertops will have visible seams. Acrylic products will have inconspicuous seams not guaranteed to be invisible.

Backsplash Installation: If the job order includes a high-backsplash it is usually a 2-part process on stone surfaces to complete installation. The high-backsplash will be measured after installation of the countertop. The backsplash will actually be installed approximately 1-week later. All upper cabinets and range hood/microwave combinations must be installed prior to measuring for the high-backsplash.

Cancellation/Returns: Your countertops will be custom made and fitted to accommodate the requirements of a particular project. These materials are non-returnable and its purchase price cannot be refunded unless incorrectly ordered by Professional, or unless damaged beyond repair in delivery or by Professional.
